Write the Firebox Theme Tune, Sing The Firebox Theme Tune!

Songsmithfirebox

We can’t believe that as a company we’ve been around for over 10 years now and have yet to produce a cheesy theme tune. It’s a tragic state of affairs. After all, who wouldn’t enjoy a catchy ditty about gifts and gadgets?

Then we stumbled across Songsmith, the new bit of software from the bods at Microsoft, for which they’ve made the worst advert ever. And we thought it would be fun to see what you, our loyal Firebox followers, could come up with. Given that the software seems to turn most stuff into the kind of cringe-worthy tunes reminiscent of 1970s toothpaste adverts, it should be interesting.

Songsmith

So here’s the plan...

  1. Download the free trial version. It will work for 6 hours of actual use (so not just 6 hrs from when you download, it only counts when you’re using it).
  2. Write a theme song for us. It can be in any style you like, you just need to sing it into a microphone connected to your computer. Then run it through Songsmith to get the backing track.
  3. Either e-mail your masterpiece to us at themetune@firebox.com, or post it to YouTube or your MySpace page and e-mail us the link.
  4. We will put the best/most amusing tunes into one of our upcoming newsletters, and on this blog. We're looking for the tackiest, silliest stuff you can come up with!

P.S People are also putting famous tunes into Songsmith to see what happens. The best so far is this version of ‘Roxanne’ by The Police.
