Footprints In The Butter

How can you tell when an elephant's been in your fridge?

Now that a brand new university term has started and students the country over are discovering the joys of Tuna Pasta Bake and daytime tv, they won't have problems with pachyderms (elephants, or nonruminant ungulates to you and me - we're just trying to be educational) interfering with their Lurpaktm if they use this Flatshare Fridge.

Flatshare fridge

Naturally, at Firebox we're all one big happy family who love nothing more than to share all our refrigerated produce, and never keep yoghurts from way back in March for accidental scientific experiments. We even butter each other's crumpets of a Monday morning.*

This doesn't stop us thinking this is a particularly neat idea. It comes in the 6th year of the Electrolux Design Lab competition. This entry is by design student Stefan Buchberger who cares about making sure you don't squabble over who finished the milk. It works with a base station (here in white) with up to 4 stackable units which can be placed on top. You can customise colours and even attach such useful extras as bottle openers and whiteboards. So (due to the lack of padlocks), you can still pinch your housemate's last slice of ham, but at least you'll be able to open a beer while you leave them a note telling them to buy some more.

*Subject to terms & conditions. And crumpet supplies.
